IBACOS is located in the historic downtown Strip District of Pittsburgh, PA at 2214 Liberty Avenue, 15222. In line with IBACOS' focus on improving home quality and performance, Pittsburgh has gained increasing recognition over the last few years as one of the country’s greenest cities.
Pittsburgh is home to more than 30 LEED®-certified green buildings, including the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the world's first and largest gold LEED®-certified convention center, and Phipps Conservatory’s new Center for Sustainable Landscapes, a "Living Building" with a self-contained energy and water supply.
Our facility integrates our workspace with an extensive research and development area, an approximately 4,000 square foot warehouse, which includes a testing laboratory and space for constructing full-size assemblies of homebuilding systems.
With the R&D space, IBACOS has the freedom to conduct many aspects of its research in-house and on-site. The testing laboratory is complete with a range of diagnostic tools, including a blower door, Duct Blaster®, balometers, anemometers, thermal imaging cameras, sonic meters, refrigerant testers, electrical and temperature measurement systems, dataloggers, and HVAC and lighting tests.
The rest of the R&D space is used to construct full-size assemblies of homebuilding systems. In this space, IBACOS performs detailed studies of current and advanced technology and construction practices. Common assemblies seen in the space include water management investigations into window, shower pan, and shower seat installations.
Our research and development space has historically seen many uses. Shown here, this house was constructed to study diffuser air flows, investigate new windows and window installation methods, examine task lighting techniques for high-use areas, and look at various vinyl siding and stucco applications, among other uses. Manufacturer partners also used it to showcase new and prototype products.
