IBACOS’ mission to apply high-performance standards to entire developments and communities of homes materialized in one of the first residential brownfield developments in the United States.
Located in Pittsburgh on the site of an old slag heap that was inherited from the city’s long history with the steel industry, Summerset at Frick Park is a $250 million private and public collaboration that was the City of Pittsburgh’s largest residential development since World War II. Every home was designed and built to new standards of quality and was engineered to be at least 30 percent more energy efficient than typical new homes in the region from that time period.
This pioneering initiative ultimately led to the launch of IBACOS’ first spinoff company, EQA Landmark Communities, which was founded by IBACOS in 1996. Today, EQA is a thriving development team based in Pittsburgh that is committed to creating environmentally-conscious, high-quality, affordable places to live, work and play; while helping cities, neighborhoods and communities “rediscover themselves.”
