Monitoring Data

Resources Monitoring

Here, a data logger in the attic of House 5 records measurements like temperature, relative humidity, and electricity consumption taken from sensors located throughout the house.

IBACOS conducts long-term monitoring of houses as a major part of our research work. Over the course of one to three years, monitoring equipment measures the performance of a house, as well as the performance of specific building technologies in the house, such as the HVAC system and the domestic hot water (DHW) system. IBACOS observes the interactions among the various systems, particularly those interactions that are difficult to determine through modeling. Below, download recent data (Microsoft Excel as comma seperated values) obtained from the houses that IBACOS is currently monitoring or has recently completed monitoring.

Houses 1 and 2

Houses 1 and 2 are located in central Kansas. The measurements from these two houses include:

  • Water heater performance: Natural gas use, temperature and volume of cold water entering and hot water supplied by the water heater
  • HVAC system performance: Furnace natural gas use, air conditioner outdoor unit compressor and fan electricity use, air handler unit fan electricity use, temperature and relative humidity (RH) at the first floor thermostat
  • Outdoor environment: Temperature and RH

House 3

House 3 is located in central Illinois. The measurements from this house include:

  • Indoor comfort conditions: Temperature and RH at several locations throughout the house
  • Outdoor environment: Temperature and RH
  • Electricity consumption: Whole house, space heating, DHW, and oven
