In 1993, IBACOS constructed this home, known as Lab Home B, in Pittsburgh to test technologies and process changes that could improve construction cycle time, building durability, design flexibility, and energy efficiency. The floor plan for the home was based on one from national production homebuilder, Ryland Homes.

Through our collaborative work with clients, industry experts, and Building America partners, IBACOS has developed a number of resources to communicate advancements and promote awareness throughout the homebuilding industry.

Best Practices® and Quality Issues in Residential Stucco Application
In the Western U.S., three-coat and one-coat stucco are the dominant exterior finishes for residential construction. Still, stucco is present in almost every market. While the use of stucco is widespread, it has performed poorly in recent years due to the improper execution of key details. This paper closely examines what has been learned from extensive on-site inspections and lab tests of both durable and failed stucco systems.

Monitoring Data
IBACOS conducts long-term monitoring of houses as a major part of our research work. Over the course of one to three years, monitoring equipment measures the performance of a house, as well as the performance of specific building technologies in the house, such as the HVAC system and the domestic hot water (DHW) system. IBACOS observes the interactions among the various systems, particularly those interactions that are difficult to determine through modeling. In this section, download recent data (Microsoft Excel as comma seperated values) obtained from the houses that IBACOS is currently monitoring or has recently completed monitoring.
