Beazer Homes Joins the Best Practices Research Alliance®

August 11, 2009

PITTSBURGH, PA - Beazer Homes USA, Inc. (www.beazer.com) is the newest member of the Best Practices Research Alliance (www.theresearchalliance.org) - a network of homebuilders working with building scientists and manufacturers to find the right combinations of technologies, construction practices, and change management strategies to consistently and profitably deliver high performance, energy efficient homes.

As one of the top ten homebuilders in the country, Beazer's legacy includes building homes for America's families for over 50 years - over 100,000 in the last 10 years alone. Beazer is focused on continuously improving the quality and value they offer in their homes with little to no impact on their homeowners' bottom line. Tony Callahan, Beazer's senior vice president of national purchasing, planning and design, said joining the Alliance will open more doors for the builder to learn about emerging technologies and the experiences that other builders are having delivering high performance homes.

"Homebuilding today has to be smarter, faster, and more cost-efficient for the consumer, while yet introducing green building practices and energy-efficient technologies," said Callahan. "We believe the Alliance will be a great avenue for us to access that innovation in a collaborative environment with some of the best minds in the homebuilding industry."

"We look forward to the insights Beazer can provide as to what it means for a large-scale production homebuilder to pursue high levels of quality and energy efficiency," said Elizabeth Scott, manager of the Alliance. "We anticipate the start of a great dialogue, with the American homeowner being the ultimate beneficiary of our work."

Through the Alliance, Beazer Homes will participate in research-based discussions with other national production builders such as K Hovnanian Homes and Pulte Homes. Beazer will also have the benefit of insights from innovative regional and local Alliance builders who have been recognized for their leadership in quality and energy efficiency through programs such as the Department of Energy's Builders Challenge, ENERGY STAR® Leadership in Housing Awards, NAHB Green Building Awards, and the American Lung Association Healthy House.

About the Alliance
The Best Practices Research Alliance® is a research-based community of homebuilders collaborating with building scientists and product and material manufacturers. Our ultimate goal is to identify and share how to deliver high quality, zero energy homes as an everyday part of mainstream America. Homes that produce as much energy as they consume, while offering higher levels of comfort, durability, safety, and earth friendliness. The Alliance is operated by IBACOS®, a consulting firm specializing in home quality and performance and a research team leader for the Department of Energy's Building America Program. The Alliance is supported in part by leading industry suppliers - Carrier Corporation, DOW, DuPont, Johns Manville, and Panasonic - and media partners Scripps Networks and BuildIQ.
