Paralleling the investigation of Lab Home C in the hot-humid climate of Austin, Texas, Lab Home D sought similar answers for the hot-dry climate. Built in Southern California, LAB Home D challenged traditional production practices for effective cooling and occupant comfort.

This was achieved through careful design and control of solar gain, air infiltration, and ventilation. Many of the lessons learned as a result of this program were immediately incorporated into three active community developments, delivering comfort cost-effectively to 200 families.
