IBACOS Awarded Project by the DOE in Latest Round of Building America Funding
IBACOS was selected as one of seven participating teams in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) $4 million initiative to develop and demonstrate new energy efficiency solutions for the nation's homes. For these Building America projects, teams will focus on developing and implementing solutions that promote energy efficiency at a reasonable cost and preserve indoor air quality.
Specifically, IBACOS will be investigating a proposed Thermal Comfort Rating Method, which will be applied to an innovative plug-and-play HVAC distribution system design. This project will result in state-of-the-art comfort distribution systems that perform better, as well as a thermal comfort metric with the potential to help builders and HVAC contractors measure and communicate the value of improved comfort delivery systems in all three climate zones.
The DOE’s Building America program develops cutting-edge innovations and resources with industry partners to spur the residential building market to adopt energy efficiency measures that will provide 50% savings in new homes by 2025 and 40% savings in existing homes by 2030. A major focus of the work is home heating and cooling. Improving the energy efficiency of home heating and cooling systems and building envelopes (roof, walls, and windows) could reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling by as much as 70%.
IBACOS plays a leading role in driving innovation in the housing industry. For almost 25 years, IBACOS has collaborated with a network of leading homebuilders, manufacturers, government and industry groups to improve building quality and performance across the United States. Areas of expertise include business and marketing strategy, systems and product development, quality process management, building science, architecture, engineering and construction.
IBACOS is passionate about the delivery of better homes that respond to the needs of the consumer, the builder, and the environment. The IBACOS vision for Homes That Give BackSM encompasses safe, healthy, durable, comfortable, efficient, responsible, connected, and affordable housing. The need for innovation in the building industry—domestically and abroad— has never been greater, and IBACOS’ collaborative innovation process drives the research of new ideas and the development of meaningful value propositions for new building products and technologies.
