IBACOS: Integrated Building and Construction Solutions

Building America

As researchers for energy-efficient solutions in residential construction, IBACOS partners with and participates as a team leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America program. The Building America Program combines the knowledge and resources of industry leaders with the U.S. Department of Energy's technical capabilities to act as a catalyst for energy efficiency in the homebuilding industry. Through the Building America program, IBACOS works together with manufacturers and production homebuilders towards advancements in research that can be built into today’s home.

Over the years, we have applied our research in homes nationwide and published our findings in articles, reports, and newsletters. Visit Building America Research Results to see accomplishments and read more about our projects in Whole House Energy Savings, Lighting/Appliance/Miscellaneous Plug Load, and Quality Control.

Building America conducts systems engineering research to do the following:

  • Produce homes on a community scale that use 40 to 70% less energy
  • Help home builders reduce construction time and waste
  • Improve builder productivity
  • Provide new product opportunities to manufacturers and suppliers
  • Implement innovative energy- and material-saving technologies

IBACOS helps to achieve these goals by:

  • Working with builders to identify potential areas of construction improvement, cost trade-offs, and energy savings.
  • Providing builders with tools and resources to implement construction changes across product lines and throughout divisions.
  • Providing builders with in-the-field technical support and in-depth building science training.
  • Providing guidelines for building and community development to developers and builders within a community setting.
  • Facilitating communications within areas of the industry where communication does not normally occur: between builders, developers, major manufacturers, and government.
