The IBACOS research team produces numerous reports and articles based on our work with the U.S. Department of Energy's Building America program. Some key publications that resulted from this research are provided on this page, organized by project below. Residential Energy Efficient Lighting and Misc. Electric Loads The estimated combination of lighting, appliances, and miscellaneous electrical loads are 42% to 63% of the whole-house source-energy use for a base-case house meeting the Building America Benchmark Definition characteristics. The research of this project focuses on establishing best practices with existing technologies and identifying and resolving barriers to further advances in savings. IBACOS Whole House Program How do you determine the appropriate whole-house systems, integration strategies, and trade-offs to optimize a home for energy efficiency? This program works to find strategies for meeting Joule targets of energy efficiency. It also explores tools for quality control, barriers to implementation, and gaps in component technologies. Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Risk Reduction, Barrier Reduction To provide high performance homes to the consumer, builders require new models of how to manage their operations in all phases. This research seeks to identify the issues builders face in adopting high-performance designs and to develop the quality-control tools and processes they need for implementation.
