As part of the national campaign to grow industry and consumer
awareness for healthy living, the American Lung Association embarked
on the design, construction, and promotion of demonstration Health
Houses. Beyond inherent qualities such as high indoor air quality
and energy efficiency, this project is unique in that two one-story
houses are built side-by-side, representing the same floor plan
constructed of different materials and conditioned by different
fuel-types. Such an approach demonstrates that a healthy home is
not dependent on any given material, method, or fuel. Opened to
the public in 1999 in Tucson, IBACOS served as the technical advisor,
and quality control and performance review agent for the ALA on
both houses.
