Hedgewood Properties’ EarthCraft House Nearing Completion

An opening event will be held on October 2, 2004 in commemoration of the Westbrook Solar EarthCraft House™ built by Hedgewood Properties and its partners in the Building America program. This pilot home has been built as a partnership with Southface Energy Institute, and is both a Building America Pilot Home and a project under the Zero Energy Homes initiative.

Hedgewood Properties is nearing completion on this pilot home, which is a model home in the builder’s new Westbrook community near Cumming, Georgia. The 4,320 square foot pilot home is designed to achieve a minimum of 40% savings in total energy use and supply some of its electrical energy via a photovoltaic system (49% savings with this contribution).

With the input of the builder and partnering Southface Energy Institute, IBACOS developed detailed final specifications for the home and consulted on ways to improve the home for efficiency, durability, and comfort.
