IBACOS: Integrated Building and Construction Solutions

Is a Single Performance Standard Practical for a Wide Range of Building Sizes?

In some master-planned communities, every builder in the community is required to meet the community’s performance standards, even though their houses vary in size from small attached and detached units up to large single-family homes. Is one standard practical for all house sizes?

IBACOS has been researching this question through our work in two community-scale projects in cold and hot-humid climate zones, and is presenting a discussion of the issues, our analysis, and a potential solution at the U.S. Green Building Conference, being held in Pittsburgh, PA from November 12 through 14.

Duncan Prahl, IBACOS’ Innovation Programs Leader, will be presenting this discussion. His presentation paper, titled “Analysis of Energy Consumption, Rating Score, and House Size,” has been accepted for inclusion in Pittsburgh Papers: Best of Greenbuild 2003 Conference & Exposition, an Environmental Building News journal publication.
