John Holton, AIA, PE
As Research Project Manager, John has directed many of IBACOS’ comprehensive research projects for the Building America Program. John joined IBACOS full-time in 1999, after having worked with the company since its founding in 1991 at Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann Associates, an IBACOS partner company. His principal research focus is on the interactive effects of the components of a house, as well as advanced residential lighting design. He has authored numerous research reports and papers on thermal and energy performance, ventilation, indoor air quality, and moisture and durability issues. John is currently a member of ASHRAE SSPC 62.2, the committee that is developing the Standard for Residential Ventilation, and he previously served on the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 committee. John has also worked with the National Bureau of Standards (now NIST) conducting architectural research. Previously, John worked for Perkins and Will Architects in Chicago, where he developed and managed the firm's practice in industrialized housing. This included designing several housing systems, and managing site planning for the Operation Breakthrough demonstration site in Kalamazoo, Michigan. John is a licensed architect and a licensed engineer. He earned a Master's degree in Architecture from Harvard University, and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University.
